I was driving the other day and heard the weekly local hog report on the radio. In this report were the number and prices for the hogs slaughtered in the state over the preceeding week. This got me thinking: Why is it so hard to find statistics on the number of our children in Nebraska that get placed into foster care every week, every month, even every year? As Richard Wexler says, he has to file Freedom of Information Act requests to get access to this information.
Why is it easier to find out about our state's dead pigs than it is our live children?
