KCAU-TV - Channel 9 - Interview Part 2, "Children in Crisis" - focuses on the Smotherman Family (NE)
KCAU-TV in Sioux City, Iowa, did a story on "children in crisis" - the problems of accessing mental/behavioral health services for children that was only revealed publicly after Nebraska's Safe Haven allowed for 36 older children to be relinquished by desperate families unable to find adequate help any other way. This link goes to PART 2 of a two-part news story. The first segment focused most on the challenges experience by the Thunker family of Hartington, Nebraska. This segment focuses on another family - the Smothermans - whose daughter suffered from mental and behavioral health issues that eventually led her to become a ward of the state. News Anchor Jenna Rehnstrom has done a wonderful job covering important issues affecting families raising children with mental and behavioral health issues!
