FAMILY ADVOCACY MOVEMENT is here to help families and family advocates communicate with each other.

The founders of this site are fellow parents who have been unjustly tangled up in a system that neither understands the complexities of family life (especially true for families raising mentally or behaviorally disabled children), nor respects and values the very important roles families serve in the lives of our own children.

From the lack of accessible and appropriate family services, to the Department of Health & Human Services / Child Protective Services, to the Juvenile Justice System, and everything in between, families become the victims of poor policy. The well-being of children is placed at serious risk.

Too often, state agencies and the lower courts inappropriately inject themselves into the lives of fit families, violating parental rights, denying due process, interfering with parent-child relationships, and diminishing the care of children as compared to that provided by their own families, who know and love them best.

While there are many websites and groups advocating for families and children within our different states, it is our hope that the FAMILY ADVOCACY MOVEMENT - through the unifying work of this site - will join families to forge a force for change and reform at the state and federal levels.

There is power in numbers, and empowerment in knowing we are not alone in these struggles.

This website and each of the registered members offer the opportunity to not only publish personal stories, engage in discussions with others, and announce related activities within the pages of one's own state, but also to join in the similar discussions and activities of families in other states.

We within the FAMILY ADVOCACY MOVEMENT believe we must unify parents and caregivers, bringing together our collective voices to ensure vital government, agency, and service reform necessary to support and protect America's families.
